Rules for Tailgating and Parking at Canal Shores Golf Course

Rules for Tailgating and Parking at Canal Shores Golf Course

All tailgating and parking is being provided by Canal Shores for and on behalf of the City of Evanston, and not Northwestern University.  Any tailgating or parking questions, comments or other inquiries should be directed to Canal Shores.

All tailgating and parking on Canal Shores Golf Course is subject to the rules set forth below.  These rules may be amended from time to time by Canal Shores, and the most up to date version shall apply. Tailgating and parking are the exclusive uses on the days and during the times as purchased, and for no other purpose and for no other days or times.

Violation of any of these rules is grounds for immediate removal of you and your entire party from the lot.  Removal will be at the sole discretion of Canal Shores.  There will be no refunds for offenders.  Violators are subject to arrest where any laws are broken.  Canal Shores in its sole discretion may bar those who violate any of these rules from future tailgating/parking.  Offenders will not be entitled to any refunds.

If Canal Shores in its sole discretion deems that weather conditions limit parking on the golf course, and you are denied entry to the golf course, you may be provided an alternative tailgating/parking spot or a refund of the price of your tailgating or parking pass for that game.  Processing fees for your purchase will not be refunded.  Neither Canal Shores nor Northwestern University shall be responsible for any property that is lost, stolen or damaged by you or unrelated third parties in tailgating or parking lots.  You will indemnify, defend and hold harmless Canal Shores, Northwestern University and the City of Evanston, and their respective officers, trustees, managers, officials, employees, and agents from and against all damages (including property damage), injuries (including death), claims, actions, and expenses, including attorneys’ fees, arising out of or related to any act, error, or omission of you or any of your guests.

Hours, Areas and General Restrictions:

  • Tailgating and parking lots open four and three hours, respectively, prior to each kickoff and close two hours after each game ends.  Any vehicles remaining on the lots more than two hours after a game ends are subject to towing at Canal Shores sole discretion and at the sole expense of the owner of the vehicle.
  • Each patron must have a digital or hardcopy (as applicable) season or game-day tailgating or parking pass in order to drive a vehicle into the assigned tailgating or parking lot. Passes have unique identifiers and can only be used once per game.  Once a pass has been scanned, it will no longer be usable for admission.
  • Each individual pass is designated for only one specific tailgating or parking (as applicable) space in an assigned lot.  A patron will be allowed to tailgate or park (as applicable) only in the lot designated on the pass.
  • Once a vehicle leaves a tailgating or parking lot, it will not be allowed to reenter, unless a new pass is purchased.
  • Cash purchases of game-day passes may be limited or unavailable.  Customers are strongly encouraged to buy passes online in advance.
  • Tailgating and parking will be permitted on holes #1, #2, part of #3, #11 and #12 and only in the designated areas of those holes. Parking-only (e.g., no tailgating) will be permitted only on holes #14, part of #3, and #15 and only in the designated areas of those holes.  No tailgating or parking will be permitted anywhere else on the golf course.
  • Persons are not allowed on greens or tees at any time for any purpose.
  • Each tailgating and parking space is on a first-come first-served basis within your applicable lot.  Spaces cannot be saved in advance for you or others.  Groups that want to tailgate or park together should arrive together.
  • Each vehicle is allowed only one tailgating or parking (as applicable) space per pass purchase.  The size of that space will be determined solely by Canal Shores.  Chairs, tables and other tailgating equipment must fit within the allotted tailgating space and are not allowed in parking lots.  No items may be used to secure another tailgating space for someone else.
  • No tents are allowed.  Canopies may be used only in tailgating lots, provided that they are no larger than a 10’x10’ footprint and fit in the allotted tailgating space.  Stakes to secure canopies are prohibited.
  • No RVs, no vehicles exceeding 18’ in length and 8’ width, and no vehicles with more than two axles are allowed.
  • No tailgating or loitering are permitted in parking-only lots

Alcohol Consumption:

  • Tailgaters and parkers who are determined to be impaired in advance of entering the lots will be barred.
  • Consumption of alcohol must be reasonable and respectful at all times.
  • Unruly or inappropriate behavior is strictly prohibited. Public intoxication will be grounds for citation and arrest.
  • A person must be 21 years of age to consume alcoholic beverages on the tailgating lots.
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages outside the tailgating time period or designated tailgating lots is strictly prohibited.
  • Consumption of alcohol in parking-only lots is prohibited.
  • Catering vehicles are not allowed in tailgating lots.

Restrooms, Trash & Grills:

  • Portable restrooms are provided in certain areas. Public urination or defecation is strictly prohibited.
  • All tailgaters must dispose of trash in their own receptacle or a designated trash receptacle located in the tailgating lot using trash bags.  Tailgaters must remove their own trash receptacles from lots when they leave the lot with their vehicle.
  • Grills are allowed, but all charcoal must be removed from the lot or placed in a designated coals receptacle in a tailgating lot.  Grills must be used safely.
  • Open fires are prohibited.
